You’ve heard all the fuss. You’ve seen the plethora of articles. You may even have read some of the scientific publications. You know that they are doing it at organisations such as Google, Apple, Atlassian and General Mills. Most people today perceive that meditation works evidenced by the many meditation techniques and apps that are out there to try.
For many, the noise, the constant busyness, the never ceasing buzz and frenetic pace of work and life is creating an intensity that is becoming fever pitched. Focus and productivity is being compromised and wellbeing, health and happiness are being conceded at the expense of an ill-defined success.
As a result, many are considering this meditation gig to be potentially, a useful tool. But where to start? And what about some of these questions and concerns that you may have? Below is a list of the top five questions that I am asked when people are considering learning to meditate with me.
1. Do I have to sit in an uncomfortable crossed legged position with funny hand positions?
No! In the Meditation practice I teach, comfort is very important. Sit upright with your back supported and in a manner that minimises any discomfort or aches and pains is what is advised.
2. Do I have to chant strange sounds out loud?
No! When you learn to meditate with me, you look like you are sitting comfortably, with your eyes closed. This means you can practice on a bus, a train, sitting at your desk, in the park…… With your sun glasses on, no one even knows that you are meditating!
3. Do I have to stop my thoughts? (“I can’t stop my thoughts – I have a really busy mind!!”)
Vedic Meditation is made for people with busy minds. You are not required to exclude thoughts in this technique. If you think, you can meditate! And if you have a busy mind – more reason to learn to meditate, to achieve deep rest for the mind and body and gain all the amazing stress release benefits.
4. Do I have to come to regular classes week after week? (“I don’t have time for this!”)
No! By the end of the 4 – step program you will be fully self-sufficient in the technique. However, if you wish to join us at our weekly group meditation sessions or have any questions or concerns afterwards, there is our complimentary alumni program. And I will be available as your life-long, ongoing support.
5. Is it religious or spiritual? (“I had enough of this at school”)
No. This is a mental technique and a stress reducing tool. We have no desire to tell you how to live your life. We are however, keen to provide you with the tools, insights and resources to help you act in accordance with what you already know to be true.
So, the biggest question we should be asking ourselves is, why are we NOT meditating?
