Overcome Burnout
Re-balance Your Work & Life

  • Are you burnt out but don't know where to start?
  • Have you tried self-care hacks but are still struggling?
  • Are you tired of feeling exhausted and of the constant need to push yourself (and of secretly fearing you might be disengaged)?
  • Are you fearful that your high-performer imposter will be uncovered and the burned-out survivor will be exposed?
About 82% of employees globally are at risk of burnout this year - but only half of employers design work with wellbeing in mind.

Think you may be suffering burnout?

Complete our Burnout quiz to find out.

Is it you? Is it the job? It's both...

Too often the expectation lies with the individual to "fix" their burnout with a weekend away or other self-care interventions. Research has shown that burnout isn't just an individual problem, it's also an organisational issue.

Burnout happens when there is a mismatch between the conditions a person requires to do their best work and support their wellbeing and what their organisation provides.

The challenge is to identify the mismatch and then to advocate for yourself or find another way of solving this poor alignment, and neither option is an easy fix.

Missing the signs - beware of the danger zone

Some miss the signs that they’re headed towards the "danger zone", that slippery point at the start of a steep decline into poor health and dysfunction (much like the top of a steep bank down to a rushing river). It’s a slow, tortuous climb back to your former effectiveness.

Defining Burnout - knowing the signs

Burnout used to be classified as a life-management problem, but more recently, the World Health Organisation reclassified it as a work-based syndrome caused by chronic stress. The three identifiable dimensions of burnout are:

  • Extreme fatigue or exhaustion
  • Increased mental distance from your work and/or feelings of negativity or cynicism
  • Reduced sense of professional effectiveness

Burnout is not your fault - but you
can do something about it

The impact of unchecked burnout.

Research has linked unchecked burnout to many health problems, including hypertension, sleep disturbances, depression and substance abuse. Moreover, it can ruin relationships and jeopardise career prospects.

Why so many ignore burnout, often until it is too late

Burnout is a common challenge faced by driven, high achievers, yet it’s often misunderstood. Many narratives unfairly place the blame on individuals, suggesting that they can’t handle the workload or aren’t suited for their roles. This misplaced blame can lead to feelings of guilt and reluctance to seek help. Instead of addressing the issue, many choose to push through, ignoring the signs of burnout.

Self-care tactics are useful, but don't fix burnout

Idividuals will opten try some self-care tactics (weekends away, yoga classes, massages etc) whihc are useful but are not getting to the root cause

Find your way back to
wellbeing.

Sadly, untreated severe burnout can take years to recover from and can rob you of your relationships, career, health, wealth, and happiness. Burnout is a real and serious issue, and it's not your fault.
It can't be solved by a weekend away or by quick self-care fixes.
The best strategy is to take a multi-faceted approach to burnout.
We need to address burnout at the level of cultural and systemic change within our workplaces, and at the individual level.
Organisational change takes time. Individual change can start now. You can learn the steps to manage and recover from your burnout.

About Cathy Rolfe

Business professional turned meditation teacher

As a high achieving executive, I was paying a high price for my success with poor health, incessant thoughts, an exercise addiction and feeding a serious caffeine habit in order to cope with the non-stop corporate whirlwind.

Today I teach this very powerful stress management technique to business people who are currently experiencing the stress drain and anxiety that I experienced prior to discovering this life changing practice.
